Alexandrine (La Righi's daughter)

Overview

The small daughter of the actress La Righi (Larderel's mistress, «la Coquine», «Silène»), whom Count Larderel calls «ma petite Alexandrina» at Sorrento on 3 April 1877 and wants to adopt. The child is a focus of Marie's jealousy and then of her fantasies: the «air de tendresse donné à ma petite Alexandrine» makes her furious (070.0030); Larderel proposes marriage «en priant d'adopter sa fille» (070.0420); she dreams of the child turning into a cat or a black dog (070.0536, 070.0584); on 1 June she wishes to bring Alexandrine up herself («l'autre en aura autant dans dix ans», 071.0527, when Lise is twelve, so the child is about two); in July Rosalie tells in bed how she would carry her off (073.0237); and in October 1878 Marie recalls «j'étais enragée pour enlever et élever la petite Alexandrine» (082.0614). Marie also calls her «ma fille, c'est-à-dire la fille de Larderel», who «reçoit six mille par an de son père» (071.0129).
