Overview
The baby granddaughter of Mme Elisabeth Raynaud, for whom Marie stood godmother in 1877. On 3 June 1877 Mme Raynaud arrives «avec sa fille mariée qui va avoir un enfant dont je serai marraine et auquel je donnerai nom Alexandre ou Alexandrine» (071/1877-06-03, 071.0549). Mon Journal t.10 index: «Alexandrine (filleule de Marie), petite-fille de Mme Elisabeth Raynaud», p.198; t.12 index: «Alexandrine, filleule de Marie Bashkirtseff», pp.138, 229. The christening is held by proxy on 19 August 1877: «Je … prie Mme Anitchkoff de me remplacer durant la cérémonie, mais c'est moi qui serai inscrite. Demain j'envoie les cadeaux à ma petite Alexandrine» (073/1877-08-19, 073.0495). In Paris on 3 March 1879 the neighbour brings her: «ma filleule Alexandrine, la petite a dix huit mois» (084.0377). Before the birth the future name is a family topic: «On parle tant d'Alexandre et d'Alexandrine» (071/1877-05-15, 071.0359; probably this child, not yet born).
Not to be confused with Alexandrine, La Righi's daughter, the child Marie fantasises about adopting in the same months.
