Durocher

Nina Durocher, French actress, mistress of Marie's father Constantin Bashkirtseff (1833–1883) from 1873 until at least the Poltava autumn of 1876. Marie writes «la Durocher» with the contemptuous article. The Mon Journal t.2 index reads «Durocher (Mlle Nina), actrice, maîtresse de Constantin Pavlovitch Bashkirtseff» (p.199) and the t.9 index «Durocher (Mme), maîtresse de Constantin Bashkirtseff». No birth date beyond Marie's own report of her age was found.

• Nice, 1873-10-25 (011.0266): «Mon très cher père a une actrice française Durocher, elle a quarante-deux ans. Il est amoureux (?) d'elle, lui achète des diamants et nous fera le plaisir de venir à Nice avec elle.» (born about 1831, by Marie's report).
• 1873-11-25 (013.0073): the father arrives; Walitsky saw him at Monte-Carlo «avec cette actrice Durocher. Comme c'est honteux, son arrivée, indeed un grand scandal.» On 11-26 (013.0087) Marie tells him that her mother will not come to his hotel: «Vous devez venir chez elle et Nina chez vous» (RSR: «Nina» is Nina Durocher).
• Poltava and Gavronzi, 1876: in August Marie sees the photograph of «l'actrice de mon père» removed by Paul from his album and put back (065.0376; 065.0487 «son actrice»); the scene on the road to Gavronzi, «Sa belle accourut de sa forêt, toute en larmes» (065.0600); Marie notes that her father moved a mistress of three years out of the house for her visit (066.0137), «Depuis qu'il est avec la Durocher, il s'est retiré ou le monde s'est retiré de lui» (066.0241), 066.0710, and the aunts' visit to «la maîtresse de mon père» (066.0786).
• October–December 1876: a quarrel with his mistress (067.0106); on a night alarm the steward and Pacha go to sleep at her house (067.0739: «la Durocher prit peur d'un rôdeur nocturne»); Marie writes in the margin that since he has an actress at home he «s'est rangé» (067.0317). On 1876-12-15 (068.0100): «la Tutcheff était avec la Durocher à Monaco et que maman lui a donné une chiquenaude au nez.»
