Comte Joseph Victor d'Aspremont

Overview

A Niçois nobleman, a leading figure of the Nice carnival committee, the Exposition de Nice and the Audiffret set, whom Marie knows from 1874 to 1882. The Mon Journal indexes him as «Aspremont (M. d')» in t.4–t.10 and, in t.13 and t.14, as «Aspremont d' (Joseph Victor, comte)»; that full name is the editors', not Marie's, and I did not verify it elsewhere. He is married («M. et Mme d'Aspremont», 049.0436). He is called president of the Exposition de Nice in 1878: «M. le comte d'Aspremont qui est président de l'Exposition de Nice… m'a promis de recevoir mon buste» (077/1878-01-27; untagged here, tagged COMTE_D_ASPREMONT). In 1882 he buys the Bashkirtseffs' former villa: «le château a été acheté par le comte d'Aspremont» (094/1882-04-18; untagged).

• 28 Dec 1874 – Feb 1875: «d'Aspremont et de Constantin nous passèrent» on the Promenade (028.0102); at the Carnival committee rooms «tout le bataclan de Nice, d'Aspremont, Gros, Saëtone, Danis» (029.0170); he promises chairs for the ladies at the Tribune and escorts Marie out (029.0183).
• July 1875: Danis says «ni lui ni d'Aspremont ne peuvent oublier mon entrée au comité du Carnaval» (037.0368). In October one of her «deux sympathies», with Danesi (047.0044); in November «sous la présidence de d'Aspremont» the men decide to crown Gautier (049.0411), and she sees him with Mme d'Aspremont in a box (049.0436).
• Jan–Feb 1876: the recipient of a letter to be given to Audiffret, «A M. le comte d'Aspremont, rue de la Préfecture, pour remettre à M. Emile d'Audiffret» (053.0084, 053.0095); with Danis he names Audiffret's carnival prize the «Rossignol che vola» (054.0030).
• 1877: seen with the princess Souvoroff (067.1526); Audiffret gives a lunch to Alexandre, Torlonia, d'Aspremont and the vicomte de Plancy (072.0184); the comte Carie des Perrières is «de la bande d'Aspremont, Audiffret et autres» (075.0329).
• 1 Dec 1879: she writes to him about «ce brave Tchoumakoff» and gets a reply (086/1879-12-01; tagged M_D_ASPREMONT).
