The small hotel at 22 rue de la Paix, Paris, where the Bashkirtseffs lodge on their Paris stays in 1874 and 1875: «Nous sommes à l'hôtel des Iles Britanniques, rue de la Paix 22. Je ne suis pas contente. Il fallait aller au Grand Hôtel» (038.0003, 1 August 1875). In September 1874 they are «reçues en vieilles connaissances» (023.0677). A hotel of the same name is also mentioned in Nice in December 1875 (see below); it is probably a different house.
In Marie's diary
- 1874-06-03 (020.0109): after a scene with the owner of their first lodging, «aujourd'hui nous avons déménagé à l'hôtel des Iles Britanniques, rue de la Paix»; 06-04 (020.0117): first night, a dream of Wittgenstein.
- 1874-09-16 (023.0677): back from England, «A l'hôtel des Iles Britanniques nous sommes reçues en vieilles connaissances. Je mange une soupe et écris.» 09-18 (024.0019): in a note she invites a correspondent there.
- 1875-07-21 (037.0341, restored dialogue): «Au Grand Hôtel ou aux Iles Britanniques, c'est petit, mais commode.»
- 1875-08-01 (038.0003); 1875-08-31 (040.0179): «ce petit hôtel de la rue de la Paix où l'on ne voyait personne» as against the hotel of the courtyard where they now stay.
- 1875-12-07 (050.0546, Nice): hunting a man she takes for Miloradovitch, she thinks he has entered «l'hôtel des Iles Britanniques» near the avenue de la Gare; the concierge has no guest of that name. This is a Nice hotel and is not tagged here (one mention; RSR note on the paragraph).
- 1875-02-21 (030.0051, Nice): at the theatre the music of Bagatelle carries her back «dans notre petit salon de l'hôtel des Iles Britanniques» in Paris.
