Identification (2026-10-21)

Comte Alfred Multedo: the index of Mon Journal t.11 has «Multedo (Alfred comte) : 173-175, … 296-297». Marie meets him at dinner at the Boyds' on 19 March 1878: «le fils du marquis de Multedo, corse et bonapartiste. Assez bel homme, blond, assez élégant et pas bête» (079.0005). So: a man, Corsican, a Bonapartist; the 1879 "Book 13" description above is out of date.

Spring 1878 (carnets 079–080): her partner at the Opéra ball of 29 March, where, masked, she lets him kiss her gloves (079.0125–0128); the missed meeting at the Louvre on 15 April (079.0375, 079.0377); his call on Holy Saturday, 20 April (079.0479); his declaration of 21 April and the kiss on her hand, before «les vingt-cinq jours que je passerai loin de vous» (079.0486–0493; probably his military service, cf. 079.0362, 0.7); he is back on 19 May (080.0176). Marie plays him against Cassagnac («Avec Multedo je suis tout aussi amusante et pas aussi folle», 079.0502). On 22 June 1878 he brings maman «une requête … au nom de beaucoup de gens» that Marie has no heart (080.0718).
