Jeanne de Ballore (baronne de Wykerslooth)

Overview

Daughter of M. and Mme de Ballore, a French aristocratic family of the Nice circle (see Mme de Ballore), and wife of the baron de Wykerslooth, son of the princesse de la Trémoille (see TREMOLILE). Marie knows her as a friend of the Nice drawing-rooms in 1876-77 and follows her marriage drama afterwards. • Nice, 7 December 1876: Marie visits «Mmes de Ballore et Wykersloovth»; «Jeanne est pour le moment avec son effrayant mari et sa belle-mère la princesse de la Tremoille» (067/1876-12-07, 067.1454).
• 14 December 1876: «M. et Mme de Ballore, Jeanne leur fille» in the salon (068/1876-12-14, 068.0049, 068.0052).
• February 1877: the ladies cannot help the Bashkirtseffs to the Préfecture «attendu que Jeanne plaide en séparation avec son affreux mari» (068/1877-02-01, 068.0913); «Mme de Ballore et Jeanne ont passé une heure ici» (068/1877-02-02, 068.0917).
• 18 May 1879: «Jeanne m'a posé» for Marie's painting and stays to dinner (085.0091); Marie describes the baronne (swan neck, large nose, «elle a épousé le baron de Wykerslooth, fils de la princesse de la Tremolile, affreuse brute»), 085/1879-05-18 (085.0091-0094; currently tagged BARONNE_DE_WYKERSLOOTH).
• February 1882: «Jeanne protège et aime les artistes … La jeune femme est douce, bonne, gracieuse … elle est séparée de son mari, le baron de Wykerslooth … on accuse les deux belles-mères d'avoir tout brouillé … elle a deux enfants qu'elle n'aime pas» (094/1882-02-14, 094.0262).
