Overview

A French aristocratic woman in the Nice social circle, part of the Bashkirtseff family's regular social network alongside Mme de Mouzay and Mme de Daillens. Marie refers to her also as "Vicomtesse de Ballore" and "de Ballote" (variant spelling). She is listed among the loyal friends who did not turn against the Bashkirtseff family during their period of social difficulty (carnet 052, 1876-01-19: "de Mouzay, de Daillens, de Ballote et ses filles, Barnola..." — those who "ne nous ont pas craché dessus").

She had daughters who appear in social settings. In Nice, she is a regular guest at Mme de Mouzay's salon and the Bashkirtseffs' social gatherings. In Rome (January 1876), Marie stops at Mouzay's door and finds "la vicomtesse de Ballore" there (carnet 051.0001).

Research Notes

The spelling "Ballote" and "Ballore" both appear in the diary; the variant may reflect Marie's inconsistent orthography. Likely a Vicomtesse (viscountess) title, hence "vicomtesse de Ballore."
