Overview

The wife of Léon d'Audiffret of the Tour Audiffret at Nice (LEON_D_AUDIFFRET) and stepmother of Emile d'Audiffret (EMILE_D_AUDIFFRET); mother of the girls Marie (MARIE_D_AUDIFFRET) and Dolorès. Marie meets her in Paris on 11 April 1880: «Chez elle je fais connaissance de Mme d'Audiffret, la belle-mère de l'illustre Emile d'Audiffret et de ses filles Marie et Dolorès» (087.0833). Per Kernberger (2013), «Mme Audiffret» is Emile's stepmother (see EMILE_D_AUDIFFRET).

In the diary, 1880

In May–August 1880 «les Audiffret» (the mother and her daughters) are rivals in society: they receive on Saturdays (088.0264), go to Mme Türr's balls and the comtesse de Bailleul's baccarat evenings (088.0119, 088.0230, 088.0307), and are dressed by Savarre (089.0180); Soutzo frequents them (088.0258, 088.0264, 088.0410). Marie's aunt recalls the scandal: «Madame Audiffret s'est séparée de son mari à grand scandale, son mari, un ancien marchand de drap qui était conspué à Nice» (088.0333), and Soutzo calls her «une cocotte ou à peu près» (088.0251). In the summer the girls are at Biarritz and Luchon (089.0144, 089.0450).

Earlier carnets

The tag is also used for «Mme d'Audiffret» of the Nice winters 1873–1876 (carnets 012–053); that she is the same woman is likely (the family «à Nice voyaient le meilleur monde», 088.0319) but was not checked paragraph by paragraph here.
