Privacy Policy

This is a nonprofit scholarly project dedicated to making Marie Bashkirtseff's diary accessible worldwide. We collect as little personal data as possible and never use it for commercial purposes.

What data we collect

We collect personal data only when you voluntarily interact with the site:

  • Google profile (name, email, avatar) — only when you voluntarily sign in via Google OAuth
  • Paragraph reports — translation issue reports you submit as a logged-in user
  • No tracking cookies — we use Umami analytics, which is cookie-free and collects no personal data

Why we collect data

  • To let readers report translation issues and track their own reports
  • To improve translation quality based on reader feedback

Where data is stored

  • Data is stored in a self-hosted PostgreSQL database on our own server
  • Data is stored in the EU region where possible

Cookies

  • Auth session token — stored in browser only after you voluntarily sign in with Google
  • No tracking cookies, no advertising cookies
  • Umami analytics does not use cookies

Third-party services

  • Google — OAuth authentication only, no data shared beyond login
  • Self-hosted PostgreSQL — database for user accounts and reports (no third-party cloud)
  • Umami — privacy-friendly analytics that collects no personal data

Your rights (GDPR)

Under European data protection law, you have the following rights:

  • Right to access all data we hold about you
  • Right to delete your account and all associated data
  • Right to receive a copy of your data in a portable format
