Ah, Jouy, Jouy! I am feverish from it and hold myself back from weeping.

Jealous of Bojidar as I am, I give him instructions in the third person. On hearing him say that Emile had told him to call his brother by his first name, I blushed with vexation. That is how it is.

Comme je suis jalouse de Bojidar, je lui donne des instructions à la troisième personne. En l'entendant dire qu'Emile lui a dit de nommer son frère par son nom, j'ai rougi de dépit. C'est comme ça.

He is in bed then; we have sent goodness knows what, and the news is not good. I shall go tomorrow. My God, if I could believe it would be agreeable to him I should go every day, as often as he liked.

Il est donc au lit, on a envoyé je ne sais quoi et les nouvelles ne sont pas bonnes; j'irai demain. Mon Dieu si je pouvais croire que ce lui serait agréable j'irais tous les jours, comme il voudrait.

The Gavinis come to say goodbye — they are leaving for Agen.

Les Gavini viennent dire adieu, ils partent pour Agen.

And I with Jouy!! Oh! Jouy! To distract myself I change my seat at table, have my armchair surrounded by a folding screen, and settle in as if in a sentry box — half laughing, half crying — to the great amusement of my family and Bojidar. Yes, I eat meat powder, and I am going to make Jules eat some too.

Et moi avec Jouy !! Oh ! Jouy ! Pour m'étourdir je change de place à table, fais entourer mon fauteuil d'un paravent et m'installe comme dans une guérite moitié riant, moitié criant au grand amusement des miens et de Bojidar. Oui, je mange de la poudre de viande, et je vais en faire manger à Jules.

It has been prescribed for me, and I play at being an invalid: the armchair, the screen, three bottles, a small burner, fruits, syrups, two broths... It is very amusing.

Ça m'est ordonné et je joue à la malade, le fauteuil, le paravent, trois bouteilles, un réchaud, des fruits, des sirops, deux bouillons... C'est très amusant.
