A visit from Bojidar and his father. Hecht came on Friday; I do not know what has become of him.Dimanche 28 septembre 1879
To the Bois, and then we had the happiness of driving down the Champs-Elysées escorted, followed or preceded by Joseph, who was in a carriage with yellow wheels with Coquelin of the Comédie-Française and some other nobody. Of course he was not doing it on purpose, but still, we admired each other; I looked away so that he would look at me, and then he looked away so that I would look at him too, no doubt... Then our eyes met... as in novels!... Bother. Bojidar, whom M. de Toulouse has nicknamed Corridor, dines with us and we talk nonsense about Joseph. But I must invent a diversion, for my sweet family is beginning to take far too much interest in it.
Apart from his millions and his figure, he is a likeable young man without being exactly handsome in the face. He has a rather large nose and rather diabolical moustaches in spite of his youth.
The beard frames his face, following the line of the jaw as with very young men, and ends on the chin in two tufts which, upon my word, look quite infernal. Halfway down I took off the violets that were on my bodice. These grand childish gestures are so stupid, especially in me.
I should very much like to live happily, but if it goes on like this I might as well die.
