We leave superb Florence — this leopard, light and very swift, that was covered with a spotted [illegible], as long-nosed Dante says.
There is another ugly one!
Let us go home, let us go home to our own city — to the proud city of Catherine Ségurana and of Saetone.
At three o’clock we set out.
And at eleven o’clock we arrive in Genoa — I go to bed at one.

In Italian in the original: lauza leggierci a pusta molto, che di [illisible] maculato era coperta. Evidently a garbled memory of Dante, Inferno I.32–33: una lonza leggiera e presta molto, / che di pel macolato era coverta (“a leopard, light and very swift, covered with a spotted coat”). The translation follows Dante’s sense; the illegible word stands where Dante has pel (coat). ↩
