Head of the skeleton (planned still life, 1878)
Také známý jako: tête de mon squelette, la tête de mon squelette, Still life with skull
Overview
On 23 March 1878, in Paris, Marie writes that #Robert_Fleury, under whose "direction toute spéciale" she has placed herself, has ordered her "de faire de temps en temps des natures mortes quelconques, fort simples, pour m'habituer à manier les couleurs". Then: "Je lui ferai la semaine prochaine ou l'autre semaine sur une toile de 3, la tête de mon squelette, avec un livre ou n'importe quoi bien arrangé." (079.0050-0051). The "squelette" is the anatomical skeleton in her room (she bought "des squelettes" in November 1877, 076.0167; later she calls it Amélie, 085.0268). The diary does not say that she did paint it; her first still life that she records as finished is the violets of 12 May (#Nature_morte_violettes_1878). It is a plan; whether it was executed is unknown; no image.
