Lubimoff (father and son)

Two Lubimoffs. The father, «un vieux sénateur de Pétersbourg et ami d'Anitchkoff avant que ce dernier fut ambassadeur en Perse» (025.0148; Mon Journal t.4 index «Lubimoff (M.), sénateur de Pétersbourg»), is first met on 19 October 1873 as «un vieux très haut placé à Pétersbourg» (011.0111). The son, a widower since March 1874, «de la famille des gris, gris» (025.0149), is the one who matters. He rides badly and is dressed «comme un laquais» (025.0158, 025.0161), gives himself to spiritism after his wife's death and claims to have photographed her apparition, and has vowed to become an obstetrician for poor women (025.0164); Marie finds him «un petit vilain» (030.0193).

He is suggested as a husband for Dina: on 13 March 1875 Mme Anitchkoff announces through Pâris that he will propose (030.0193); in September 1875 he does, in a formal letter listing his sobriety, independent fortune and protections (045.0100, 045.0248-0249), but Dina refuses (048.0215). Marie says that neither a Lubimoff nor a Galula is a match for her (061.0066). He returns to Nice in December 1876 «voir si Dina n'a pas meilleure opinion de ses séductions qu'il y a un an» (068.0049); Dina «n'en veut pas» (068.0051), Marie takes him under her wing (068.0075, 068.0113). Mon Journal indexes: t.4 pp. 200-210, 255; t.6 pp. 11, 20, 116; t.9 pp. 228-239.
