Perhaps it is not beautiful. Perhaps it cannot be done. I have not seen anything like it at the Salon. Nor in the museums! Then? Is it insanity? It has been raining for several days, and so as not to waste time I am beginning a portrait of Dina.
The architect comes at about six; he brings the drawing of the town house where he has suggested I do some small piece of decorative sculpture. I would accept if it were more important. I go on making no jokes about Jules; I praise other artists highly and even say, without affectation, that I feel a want of affection between Jules and me; naturally Émile protests, but I say: all the same, I find him disagreeable.
Countess Malewska came, and also the Vicomtesse de Janzé, Gavini, Linsingen.
