To church, then to the Gavinis' with Maman, where there are only Randouin and Las Cases and the Count de Bearn, who leaves first, and then the husband of Odette. I did not think I was in good spirits, but it was the contrary. Very pleasant and not eccentric. Once outside, I listened at the door to old Madame Gavini and Las Cases saying that I am one of the most intelligent women one can see... etc., etc. You understand, if ever I tell you good things about myself, it is to better inform you about me, so that you do not think I am a fool who asks heaven for things she in no way deserves. And then this Journal cannot give an idea of my conversations, [Words blacked out: it is not that I] want to make you believe I am incomparable, but you see, here I record only the little miseries of each day, from which one cannot judge... you understand what I mean. I saw the Exhibition of the Cercle de la rue Saint-Arnaud today.
Soutzo came to play cards with my aunt: Gery pere is in Tunis, no way to claim from him the discretion that this pervert Gabriel owes me.
