A promenade in the Bois paler than yesterday's. Amiability from Hecht and a visit from Da Costa. Blanc comes in the evening and savages the republic. My God, he is right, the ministers and the Chamber are most mediocre, but eminent men will emerge from one day to the next.
Une promenade au Bois plus pâle que celle d'hier. Amabilité d'Hecht et visite de Da Costa. Blanc vient le soir et éreinte la république. Mon Dieu, il a raison les ministres et la Chambre sont fort médiocres mais les hommes éminents vont poindre d'un jour à l'autre.

Je vous ai dit quelque part que Cassagnac ou un autre homme pouvaient me rendre de n'importe quelle opinion bien qu'au fond je sois toujours républicaine, mais que vous importe le fond de ma pensée puisque je suis prête à changer si on m'y convie d'une manière ou d'une autre.
