We were to go to Versailles, but Gavini sends word that the session will not be interesting.
So I take my place at the atelier, resolved not to go to Versailles until two o’clock — but we miss the two o’clock, and since the Basilewskys (whose acquaintance I made in Nice) came to see us yesterday, we go to their house and stay there very late; it is from there that I send this telegram:
Versailles, Chamber of Deputies, Monsieur Gavini de Campile.
Despite my absence, which I deplore more than is reasonable, think of me and get some pink tickets, if you do not want me to see life in darker colours, too dark.
Accept, Monsieur le Député, my distinguished regards.
Marie Bashkirtseff.
You understand — there is a touch of Arnaud behind all this.
