I went to the Exhibition and then to the Bois. At the Exhibition we meet the Marquis de Pascarola, from Naples; at the Bois, the whole world.
Je suis allée à l’Exposition puis au Bois. A l’Exposition nous rencontrons le marquis de Pascarola, de Naples, et au Bois tout l’univers.
Marcuard is no doubt vexed about his April Fool’s joke, for he has not come again.

The soirée of M. de Tunis, assistant director at the Foreign Ministry, appears in Le Figaro and in two other papers. We are mentioned.

Fio wants me to come with her and her people to lunch tomorrow at the Exhibition. They leave the day after tomorrow. I would rather go to the Salon with de Daillens and arrange to meet some gentlemen there.
Fio veut que j’aille avec elle et les siens déjeuner demain à l’ Exposition. Ils partent après-demain. Moi, j’aime mieux aller au Salon avec de Daillens et y donner rendez-vous à des messieurs.
I had resigned myself to being bored with the English because they were to go to the Chamber, and I would have gone with them — but they leave the day after tomorrow, so no more Versailles. So I need make no sacrifices.
Je me résignais à m’ennuyer avec les Anglais parce qu’ils devaient aller à la Chambre et j’y aurais été avec eux, mais ils partent après-demain, plus de Versailles, par conséquent. Je n’ai donc pas à faire des sacrifices.
