I remember now — yesterday during the race I dropped my bouquet; Antonelli jumped down, retrieved it, and was obliged to scramble up on his knees to get back.

Je me rappelle hier, pendant la course j'ai laissé tomber mon bouquet, Antonelli sauta en bas, le ramassa et fut obligé de grimper à genoux pour remonter.

"However will he manage to get up," cried Dina.

— Comment va-t-il faire pour monter, s'écria Dina.

"Oh! It is very easy," I say.

— Oh ! c'est très facile, dis-je.

"Everything I do is very easy," says the little one, brushing the dust from his knees, "I expose myself to ridicule and that is very easy" — and he began to gaze into the distance, to make believe he was piqued.

— Tout ce que je fais est très facile, dit le petit, en s'époussetant les genoux, je m'expose au ridicule et c'est très facile, et il se mit à regarder au loin pour faire croire qu'il était piqué.

Visconti called on us yesterday; I told him about my papal dream.

Visconti a été hier chez nous, je lui ai raconté mon rêve papal.

"A marriage beyond all doubt!" cried the old baron.

— Archi-mariage ! s'écria le vieux baron.

We saw Pietro on the Corso — Pietro out in the morning, Pietro reading a newspaper, like a man of substance!

Nous avons vu Pietro sur le Corso, Pietro sorti le matin, Pietro lisant un journal, comme un homme de bien !

Walitsky gets out and goes to meet him; as for us, we go to Gagiabi to buy gloves for Dina, and the two men find us there.

Walitsky descend et va à sa rencontre, quant à nous, nous allons chez Gagiabi acheter des gants pour Dina et les deux hommes nous trouvent là.

"He has been up since half past nine," he says, to find me a horse — the one he had wanted for me being ill, he went to find me another, and missed Parliament.

— Il est levé depuis neuf heures et demie, dit-il, pour me trouver un cheval, celui qu'il voulait pour moi étant malade il alla m'en chercher un autre et manqua le Parlement.

"Ah! I have been at work, I tell you!"

— Ah ! j'ai travaillé, allez !

You know the sort of life he leads — he makes day of night and night of day.
