We go in two carriages, one driven by me, the other by Dina-Paul, to see the four fountains. Fountains without water! I expected cascades like at Baden and found four mineral springs. The forest and the paths are superb. There are one or two very pretty restaurants, and we met a lady who had a Christian look, with two gentlemen whom I did not notice. I dined at the table d'hote, well enough. Afterward to Viviani's; the marquis is stupid, she is nice but an actress.
They wanted to go to the ball, but Dina was obstinate, and Maman began her lamentations: about my piano, my studies. Why do I not study, how I do nothing, etc. etc. There is nothing in the world that makes me so angry. It is the true method of disgusting one with everything! with everything in the world! I was so furious that I said frightfully impertinent things to my mother for which I shall be punished by God. I ask to live as I like, and I do everything not to deserve it.
We do not go to the ball; I eat strawberries and write these incoherent follies in haste.
I am hungry.
