While waiting for someone to come fetch me, I look out the window and see a great quantity of people of all sorts passing by, and among others the Prince de Wittgenstein; he was wiping the front of his waistcoat. In truth I spy on every movement of this gentleman -- it is shameful, and I make myself ridiculous, before whom? It is pleasant to read afterward, when all the details are there.

En attendant qu'on vienne me chercher, je regarde par la fenêtre et vois passer grande quantité de monde de toutes espèces et entre autre le prince de Wittgenstein, il s'essuyait le gilet devant. En vérité j'épie tous les mouvements de ce monsieur, c'est honteux et je me rends ridicule, devant qui ? C'est agréable de lire après, lorsqu'il y a tous les détails.

Maman found him very handsome in Nice, and so I tried to see whether he was truly handsome. He is handsome, but he is not my type.

Maman le trouvait très beau à Nice et alors je cherchais à voir s'il était vraiment beau. Il est beau, mais ce n'est pas mon genre.

They come to fetch me to see some Sevres in a bric-a-brac shop, then to Duval's -- his furniture is magnificent; I believe we shall not go again to that peasant Smith. Duval is the foremost, and his prices more reasonable than Smith's. We have walked1 all afternoon.

On vient me chercher pour voir du Sèvres dans un bric-à-brac puis chez Duval, ses meubles sont magnifiques, je crois que nous n'irons plus chez ce paysan de Smith. Duval est le premier et ses prix sont plus raisonnables que ceux de Smith. Nous avons walked tout l'après-midi.

We go to see "Le pied de mouton" -- it is a fairground piece. It is stupid.

Paul teases Dina and they make us laugh like mad all evening.

Paul taquine Dina et ils nous font rire comme des fous toute la soirée.

I have a new passion added to that for dogs: that for toys, children's toys. But I am mad about them!

J'ai une nouvelle passion ajoutée à celle des chiens, celle des joujoux, des jouets d'enfants. Mais j'en suis folle !
