I kept Maman at home; we go for a walk along the road that continues the Avenue de la Gare. I dine fairly well -- for nearly a month I have been eating badly. I forgot to mention that this morning I made a scene. As soon as I awoke, I began demanding the journey and weeping; it is only thus, unfortunately, that one obtains what one wants in this house. In the evening I go to bed with Maman, and we talked cheerfully and peacefully for two hours -- it is a miracle.
My mother was admiring my body -- the truth is, my body is beautiful.
Ah! if only I were taller! You will marry, said Maman after examining me at length. With whom?
That is the question.
