Fine weather. A fair number of people at the promenade (blue dress); by carriage then on foot to return home. Today a matinée at the Cercle Masséna. We passed twice along the Avenue de la Gare; Boreel entered the Cercle Masséna for a few minutes, then we met him on the avenue — not face to face. I did not look at him. Then he turned almost as soon as he saw us. It was a bit conspicuous, but we turned again so that he could not see me head-on; none of us looked at him, we even appeared to turn away from him — it greatly astonished him, and when he had moved off a little, he turned his whole body to look at us. He nearly wrecked his carriage, so much did he turn and stare. It is a good method; I shall not look at him anymore at all, because I do not deprive myself of much, and for him it will sting!
Oh! little by little I shall succeed! He is still in Monaco, but it does not matter to me.
