Pantheon

Overview

The Pantheon in Rome, the domed Roman temple consecrated as the church of Santa Maria ad Martyres, burial place of King Victor Emmanuel II (1878). Marie visits it with the sights of Rome: «nous allons visiter le Panthéon, l'église Santa Maria Maggiore…» (052.0342, 21 January 1876); in May 1876 ma tante goes to see it while Marie waits for Pietro Antonelli (060.0595). In January 1878 she copies the inscription placed there after the King's death: «Cette seule phrase écrite sur le Panthéon vous peint la nation italienne» (077.0251).

Tagging note

The Paris Panthéon («rue Saint-Victor aux abords du Panthéon», 087.0749) is another building and should not carry this tag; the tag at 080.0270 does not match the paragraph text. Both listed in OPEN-ITEMS B-66 (3).
