Overview

The Paris museum of contemporary art, housed beside the Palais du Luxembourg (6th arrondissement), where the French State showed the works of living artists it had bought, usually from the Salon; works passed to the Louvre after the artist's death (en.wikipedia «Musée du Luxembourg»). For a painter of Marie's generation, a purchase «placé au Luxembourg» was the mark of official success.

Relevance to Marie

Not the Luxembourg gardens or the Senate (the palace), and not the hôtel du Luxembourg at Nice (HOTEL_DE_LUXEMBOURG, 1875–1877).
