Poznámky
Gutman was a friend of Paul's in Vienna; nothing more is known of him. In these carnets Marie uses «juif» as an insult, of men said to be Jewish and of men no source calls Jewish (025/1874-11-12). Hostility to Jews was common in the Russian nobility of her day; in the Russian Empire most Jews were confined by law to the Pale of Settlement. ↩
