Overview

A French manservant in the household at Gavronzi in the autumn of 1876. Marie: «Le domestique français Victor est tombé malade, on dit qu'il est rouge et enflé» (066.0524, 066/1876-09-28). The Mon Journal t.9 index lists «Victor (domestique français)» separately from «Victor, chien». His surname is not given.

Not the same as Victor, Marie's big black dog of 1874 onward, who is in Nice with the other dogs in December 1876 (067.1394). In Russia in 1876 a bare «Victor» needs checking in context.

Relevance to Marie

  • 28 September 1876: his illness frightens her into feeling feverish herself (066.0524).
  • 7 November 1876: she sends him to fetch Paul Apollonovitch from the red house (067.0844).
  • 15 November 1876: she means to take him west with the horses, but gives way to her father's valet Kousma (067.0983: «J'allais prendre Victor mais Kousma dévoré du désir de voyages vint supplier»).

  • 1876-11-07 (067.0844); 1876-11-15 (067.0983)
  • 1876-10-16 (067.0083): «Victor (guéri depuis longtemps) ayant vu ce matin des... un gibier quelconque»: the manservant, whose illness was on 28 September; the dog was in Nice (067.1394). The t.9 index lists this page (Tome9.pdf p.130) under the dog, but the same index also swaps 067.0983 (servant, p.183) and 067.1394 (dog, p.210), so it is not reliable here.
