Identity

Olga Anitchkoff, a small daughter of Nicolas and Nina Anitchkoff, Russians of the Nice colony (Mon Journal t.3 index «Anitchkoff (Mlle Olga)», listed beside her sister «Mlle Marie Bogdanova» and their mother «Anitchkoff (Mme), Nina»; t.9 index «Anitchkoff (Mlle Olga)» with her sisters Marie and Vera). In December 1876 she is «une ravissante créature de six ans, mais horriblement mal élevée» (067.1436), so she was about four in 1874.

The «Olga Anitchkoff» of April 1874 is the same child (0.85): the t.3 index gives one «Mlle Olga» throughout (pp. 14 to 229, including pp.165-166 of the passage), and in those weeks Marie describes Mme Anitchkoff's small children as unruly: «la bonne et les sales enfants» (017.0015), «les trois horreurs de Mme Anitchkoff, ils ont crié, se sont conduits d'une manière impossible» (018.0226, 11 April 1874). When Marie says that maman «a parfois des sorties comme Olga Anitchkoff» (018.0319) and «fait comme Olga, comme une enragée, comme une folle» (018.0321), she is comparing her mother to a child's tantrums, not to an adult woman's conduct.

  • April 19 (018.0319, 018.0321): Marie's mother has «sorties comme Olga Anitchkoff» (outbursts like the child Olga's): she walks out without a word; Marie adds that she behaves «comme Olga, comme une enragée, comme une folle».
