Karaouleff
Also known as: Karaouleff
Karaouleff family
A Russian couple with a child met by Marie on the Basque coast in September 1881 (Bayonne, Fontarabie). Marie chats and draws caricatures with Mme Karaouleff, «elle est gentille» (093.0129, 24 Sept); the family goes on the outings (093.0140-0141, 27 Sept); the wife is «très belle mais pas du meilleur genre», and she cannot bear the husband, «ce Karaouleff que je ne connais pas et qui est ennuyeux» (093.0141, 093.0147). The Mon Journal t.14 index has «Karaouleff (Les), 213, 223».
At the Madrid museum on 10 October 1881 two old men come «de la part des Karaouleff»: Soldatenkoff, «marchand millionnaire qui voyage beaucoup et adore les arts», and his doctor (093.0201). The merchant is probably the Moscow publisher and art collector Kuzma Soldatenkov (1818-1901); the diary does not give his first name.
