A pretty little woman with enormous hands and abominable fat fingers. It is perhaps in those fingers that one should look for the motives that drove her husband to leave for Tonkin.tonkin

Une jolie petite femme qui a des mains énormes avec de gros doigts abominables. C'est dans ces doigts qu'il faut peut-être chercher les motifs qui ont poussé son mari à partir pour le Tonkin.

They have been married four years and he is said to be exceptionally intelligent — a gentleman one seldom meets, Claire says.

Quant à Bojidar il y est fourré et c'est à peine s'il ne raconte pas qu'il a été au collège avec Jules. Peste va.

La maréchale a sans doute suggéré à Claire de s'approprier tout ce que je dis de passable et bien souvent je m'entends répéter, et comme elle a de l'aplomb, de l'intelligence et une certaine drôlerie elle finira par me faire sentir que je la pille... Elle essaye déjà de me rouler, en causant, devant sa mère qui est flattée de cette lutte.
