Bad weather — all planned outings have fallen through for three days. I saw General Bourbaki come to call on the Marshal, who is still confined to bed but always charming, considerate, and eager to know whether everything possible is being done to ensure I am comfortable and not bored. I visit him twice a day. And that is all.# Mercredi 5 septembre 1883 Il fait mauvais temps et toutes les promenades projetées ratent depuis trois jours. J'ai vu prier le général Bourbaki qui est venu voir le maréchal toujours couché, mais toujours aimable, prévenant et empressé de savoir si tout au monde est fait pour que je sois bien et ne m'ennuie pas. Je vais le voir deux fois par jour. Et puis, c'est tout.
