Maman maintained a pointed silence before the portrait; then we criticised the hairstyle; he changed it, and today poor Tony has a dreadful migraine — but he is redoing the hair as he pleases once more, and Maman showers him with compliments to erase yesterday.
Ah! a portrait — it is very, very tedious to have done. One is never pleased; the artist passes through a thousand humiliating emotions... In any case, once on the staircase, Maman tells me the portrait is ideal: I immediately go back up to repeat it to Tony — a delicacy I find exquisite, and which I hope he appreciated.
