Yesterday, two steps from here, at the Salle Wagram, there was a great Bonapartist meeting; Cassagnac was cheered for a quarter of an hour. That is splendid.
Here is poor Architect writing. He was to come on Monday afternoon, and since I had to go out I wrote to him that it would be for Monday dinner — he understood Thursday. It is true I had written everything crooked and slanting for the joke of it, so I write back in two-centimetre letters that he must bring me the real Bastien, that forgiveness is at that price. And I attach to the note a sketch in which he is represented with three hairs standing on end, slapping his knee with one hand and holding a letter with the other.
