Monsieur Camille Lefèvre, a second-prize winner of the Prix de Rome and currently competing to win the first, recommended to me by Julian, gave me my first lesson in sculpture.

With Mlle Real del Sarte, our four lessons amounted to nothing; we worked perhaps three hours in all. Madame de Bailleul dined with us, and in the evening Gaillard arrived and brought me the issue of La Farandole in which he speaks of my painting.
Avec Mlle Real del Sarte, nos quatre leçons, ce n’était rien, nous avons travaillé peut-être trois heures en tout. Madame de Bailleul dîne avec nous et le soir arrive Gaillard et m’apporte le numéro de « La Farandole » où il parle de mon tableau.

Je vous garde tous les journaux qui parlent de Gambetta. Il se passe des choses intéressantes et je suis là, bêtement spectatrice.
