A telegram from Russia:
To Mme Romanoff. When Mme Bashkirtseff left, Paul ill. Paul and Constantin Bashkirtseff.
Maman is all in tears; she thinks Paul has tried to kill himself and that his father, frightened, is at his bedside... We telegraph at once to find out, to find out what has happened to this child. I know he was ready for anything, and God knows what he will have done, so grieved in his love and publicly humiliated.
