Sixth sitting. Gabriel's toys bring me others. Kiki gave me six boxes of lead soldiers and other things, and a little cat that one winds up and that walks.

Sixième séance. Les jouets de Gabriel m'en amènent d'autres. Kiki m'a donné six boites de soldats et autres de plomb et un petit chat qu'on remonte et qui marche.

So I amuse myself with them; I wind up the dog and play with the magnetized serpent and the snail and the frog.

Aussi je m'en amuse, je remonte le chien et joue avec le serpent aimanté et l'escargot et la grenouille.

Quite a crowd: Rouzat, Wodzinski, Soutzo, Turquan, Fromessant, Lahovari (secretary at the Romanian legation), Miranda, Colonna, Bichinsky, Mmes Gavini, Randouin, Poitrineau, etc.

This evening, first Saturday at the Krishabers'. Splendid reception, music and dancing, not enough people but elegant women. Naturally I still know no one except Munkacsy and his wife. I danced with a heap of toads, displaying graces for the spectators. I have become quite slim; the arms have the firmness and fine roundness of bronze. I have adopted the hairstyle from our party. The hair twisted rather low, revealing both the shape of the skull and the nape. The front embellished with stray wisps and light curls that seem to take flight. I do not blush when dancing; only Soutzo claims I look as if I do not care about people, especially my partners. They have told me so several times already, and it pleases me rather, all the more since those I do not care about do not always see it, according to Soutzo and Co. The young man persists; I told him it would not work. He asks if I would marry him if he had 2,000,000 in income (we had spoken of this at table).

Ce soir premier samedi des Krishaber. Réception splendide, musique et danses, pas assez de monde mais des femmes élégantes. Nautrellement je ne connais encore personne excepté Munkacsy et sa femme. J'ai dansé avec un tas de crapauds déployant des grâces pour les spectateurs. Je suis devenue tout à fait mince, les bras ont la fermeté et la rondeur fine du bronze. J'ai adopté la coiffure de notre soirée. Les cheveux tordus assez bas laissant voir et la forme du crâne et la nuque. Le devant agrémenté de mèches folles et de frisures légères qui ont l'air de s'envoler. Je ne rougis pas en dansant seulement Soutzo prétend que j'ai l'air de me ficher du monde et surtout de mes danseurs. On me l'a déjà dit plusieurs fois et cela me plaît assez d'autant plus que ceux dont je me fiche ne le voient pas toujours au dire de Soutzo et C°. Le petit persiste, je lui ai dit que cela n'irait pas. Il demande si je l'épouserais s'il avait 2.000.000 de rente, (on avait parlé de cela à table).

"Without hesitation, dear sir," and we laugh.

Sans hésiter cher monsieur et nous rions.

"Listen, Prince, how can you expect anyone to consider you? You are nothing; you have neither future, nor career, nor profession. You are nothing but a young man. It is deplorable!"

Ecoutez Prince, comment voulez-vous qu'on vous considère, vous n'êtes rien, vous n'avez ni avenir, ni carrière, ni métier. Vous n'êtes qu'un petit jeune homme. C'est déplorable !

Maman laughs because I felt at home in this republican salon. There is a conservatory and a smoking room at the end where one would like to walk with Gabriel.

Maman rit parce que je me sentais chez moi dans ce salon républicain. Il y a une serre et un fumoir au bout où on voudrait se promener avec Gabriel.

Madame Adam was there, but there was music; no way to circulate, and she left early.

Madame Adam y était mais on faisait de la musique, pas moyen de circuler et elle est partie de bonne heure.
