The excellent Karageorgevitches dined with us and until ten o'clock in the evening we stayed in my room admiring my drawings, studies, skeleton, etc. Bojidar finally danced a waltz with Amélie (the skeleton) — a reward I owed him for having arranged my books.

Ces excellents Karageorgevitch ont dîné chez nous et jusqu'à dix heures du soir on est resté chez moi admirant mes dessins, ébauches, squelette etc. Bojidar a enfin dansé une valse avec Amélie (le squelette) récompense que je lui devais pour avoir rangé mes livres.

The weather is beautiful; I am a little tired from last night's ball. I was dressed delightfully and quite pretty, but on arriving we did not know a soul. Monsieur de Plancy drew me from my corner where I was hiding behind a curtain; I danced with him, and the cotillion came immediately, which I danced with Monsieur d'Hauteville and with many others of course. On the whole I think I amused myself a little toward the end, although I had heard the Duchesse d'Abrantès say she was coming from Versailles... What a session! I am keeping Le Figaro and La République Française for you.

Il fait très beau, je suis un peu fatiguée du bal d'hier. J'étais mise à ravir, et assez jolie, mais arrivées là nous ne connaissions pas une âme. M. de Plancy m'a tirée de mon coin où je me cachais, derrière un rideau, j'ai dansé avec lui puis est tout de suite venu le cotillon que j'ai dansé avec M. d'Hauteville et avec bien d'autres naturellement. En somme je crois que je me suis un peu amusée vers la fin quoique j'eusse entendu dire à la duchesse d'Abrantès qu'elle venait de Versailles... Quelle séance.. ! Je vous garde "le Figaro" et "la République Française".

I am annoyed not to have been there... and the name of Madame de Cassagnac plunged me into an "ocean" of diverse feelings.

Je suis fâchée de n'y avoir pas été... et le nom de Mme de Cassagnac m'a plongée dans un "océan" de sentiments divers.

The article in La République Française pleases me — it is sufficiently truthful, and one can easily recognise Cassagnac as he is shown there. No matter.

L'article de "la République Française" me plaît, il est assez vrai et on peut facilement voir Cassagnac comme il y est montré. C'est égal.

Multedo came during the day, and as my aunt had stepped out of the drawing room for a moment he spoke to me again of his devotion, his love, et cetera. So I told him simply and honestly that in my estimation he suffered neither rise nor fall — being a friend, an indifferent one, [word cancelled: agreeable] very amiable and nothing more.

Multedo est venu dans la journée et comme ma tante était sortie un instant du salon il me reparla de son dévouement, de son amour, et coetera. Alors je lui ai simplement et honnêtement dit qu'il ne subissait dans mon esprit ni hausse ni baisse étant un ami, un indifférent, [Mot cancéllé: agréable] très aimable et rien de plus.
