I wake in a wild good humour and go to church with Maman to set a good example to the common people. Exceptionally, I have been looking very pretty of late, and today especially so. We go to the Gavinis', where there is a crowd — three former ambassadors and I don't know how many others. Yesterday Mother Gavini dined at the Rothschilds' with our ambassador, which my aunt has the bad taste to seem surprised by, adding that Prince Orloff went nowhere, was invisible. "But no, but no," came the reply.
After which we go to the Bois, where I am bored despite my pretty, serene face. The Mouzays dine with us... we laugh and talk and shout...
All the same, after a visit to the Gavinis' and a drive in the Bois, I have lost all faith in the Fine Arts and I am very, very low.
