Dourassoff is here, as you know, and on very friendly terms with my family — who causes me worries and irritations.
We went out only in the evening to see the flower parade. During the day there was a parade on the Promenade des Anglais and a gentleman-riders' donkey race. I would detest showing myself there. It is disgusting to think what trashy people play a role while Madame Tutcheff and the nonchalance of my mothers have ruined us here. I do not envy the delights of this paradise — I would be horrified to be contaminated by it — but I rage to think there are people who believe that I...
Yesterday we went to Monaco. That reign of courtesans — I shall never say enough of how revolting it is. I entered the gaming rooms for only ten minutes, but that sufficed me, not playing. Madame Abaza, who came for the théâtre, expressed her delight at meeting me. We listened to an opéra-comique in the new hall, which is very fine and in the fashion of the day. Garnier's work!
The two paintings in the vestibules are ravishing with that electric lighting trick.
This evening at the parade we caught sight of the handsome Gautier. At the London House I was introduced to Marcuard's brother.
