Young Gavini (the nephew) went to the deputy Eschassériaux fils to ask for tickets — there is perhaps some hope.
They want to marry me off — but so that no one shall use me to enrich some gentleman, I declare plainly that I am quite willing to marry, with pleasure — but on condition that he is rich, has a fine position, and is handsome; or else an intelligent, remarkable man, etc.
What a dreadful bourgeoise Mme Gavini is! She speaks of the Arts in such a profane way that I shall not go if she speaks of them in front of me again.
One must remember in marrying that it is not a monthly rental but a house one is buying outright.
