I spent an hour making a sketch of Grand-papa lying down. It is on a size 3 canvas. They say it is a success. But you know — those white pillows, that white shirt, the white hair and the half-closed eyes: it is very difficult to paint. It is only the head and shoulders, of course. I am glad to have this keepsake.
The day after tomorrow I go to the Atelier; to occupy myself and stop fretting, I have cleaned my paint boxes, arranged the colours, sharpened the charcoals. This week I have done all my errands. To Cassagnac's photograph a dozen other illustrations have been added. It amuses me to see him there, in passing... No — it is absurd.
