By way of contrast with the Opera, I put together an outfit1 and a bearing that are purity itself; besides, Count Multedo is too well bred to let anything show. Apart from him there are Philippini, de Beaurepaire, Goldsmid. Mmes de Mouzay, de Fayet, and Berthe. Fine company!Par opposition à l’Opéra je me compose une toilette et un maintien qui sont la pureté même, d’ailleurs le comte Multedo est trop bien élevé pour avoir l’air de quelque chose. I had not reckoned that from my place I should always have to turn my head to see the model. This business wears on my nerves greatly and my competition work is as bad as possible. I am convinced I shall be last, and I said so out loud.
Je n’avais pas calculé que de ma place il me faudrait toujours tourner la tête pour voir le modèle. Ce manège m’énerve beau coup et mon concours est aussi mauvais que possible. Je suis convaincue d’être la dernière et je l’ai dit bien haut.
The evening classes are finished; I shall have to organise some work for myself at home.
