Paul being to leave this evening, I did not go to the atelier in the afternoon — and in any case, thanks to Breslau, the week is lost even though she had returned my place to me.

Paul devant partir ce soir je ne suis pas allée à l'atelier l'après-midi d'ailleurs grâce à Breslau la semaine est perdue bien qu'elle m'eut rendu la place.

I wept. Paul came to bid farewell to Grand-papa, and the old man began to cry and wail like a child — unable to speak, he held Paul by the hand, cried out, and looked at Maman with eyes so imploring, so wretched, so despairing, that Paul could no longer restrain his tears, nor I, nor Maman; and Grand-papa was not calmed until he had been given a solemn word of honour that Paul would not leave that evening.

J'ai pleuré, Paul est venu faire ses adieux à grand-papa et celui-ci se mit à crier et à pleurer comme un enfant, ne pouvant parler il retenait Paul par la main, criait et regardait maman avec des yeux si suppliants, si malheureux, si désolés que Paul n'a plus pu retenir ses larmes et moi et maman et grand-papa ne s'est calmé que lorsqu'on lui eût donné parole d'honneur que Paul ne partirait pas ce soir.

I receive your letter at midnight, on returning home. How the devil do you suppose I can procure tickets for tomorrow Thursday's session?

Je reçois votre lettre à minuit, en rentrant. Comment diable, voulez-vous que je puisse me procurer des billets pour la séance de demain jeudi ?

Besides, there will be no session tomorrow Thursday. The whole time will be spent voting to appoint the bureau.

D'ailleurs, il n'y aura pas séance demain jeudi. On passera tout le temps à voter pour nommer le bureau.

And it will be no great show. When you wish to go to the Chamber, be so good as to give me two days' notice. Without that, it is impossible for me to obtain tickets.

Et ce sera pas très rôle. Quand vous désirez aller à la chambre, prenez la peine de m'avertir deux jours d'avance. Sans cela, il m'est impossible d'avoir des billets.

Very well then — I am giving you two days' notice: it will be Saturday, or Sunday at the latest, since it is as much to admire you as to allow my brother, who leaves Sunday evening, to go to Versailles with me.

Eh bien voilà, je vous avertis deux jours d'avance, ce sera donc samedi on dimanche au plus tard puisque c'est autant pour vous admirer que pour que mon frère qui s'en va dimanche soir, puisse aller à Versailles avec moi.

If you feel yourself worthy, you may come on Saturday with or without the sleepwalker. There will be two pretty persons.

Si vous vous en sentez digne, vous pouvez venir samedi avec ou sans la somnambule. Il y aura deux jolies personnes.
