And at six o'clock we were once again in the railway carriage. I fell asleep several times and always had frightful dreams — nightmares.

Et à six heures nous étions de nouveau en wagon. Je me suis endormie plusieurs fois et j'ai fait toujours des rêves affreux comme des cauchemars.

At eleven o'clock I lay down so as not to see the olive trees and the red earth; and at one thirty-five we alighted at Nice station, to the great joy of my aunt who was bustling about in the company of Collignon, the Sapogenikoff girls and Trifon, and Lefèvre.

A onze heures je me couchai pour ne pas voir les oliviers et la terre rouge et à une heure et trente-cinq minutes nous débarquions à la gare de Nice, à la grande joie de ma tante qui s'agitait en compagnie de Collignon, des filles Sapogenikoff et de Trifon, et de Lefèvre.

- You know, I cried to them before the carriage doors were opened — you know, I am very sorry to arrive here but I could not do otherwise!

- Vous savez, leur criai-je, avant que les portièrs fussent ouvertes, vous savez je suis bien fâchée d'arriver ici mais je n'ai pas pu faire autrement !

I kissed them all at once.

Je les ai embrassés tous à la fois.

During the drive there was time to recount almost all our exploits.

Pendant le trajet on eut le temps de raconter tous nos exploits, presque.

The Sapogenikoffs and Collignon got out at number 7. I got into the carriage with Maman, my aunt, and Dina.

Les Sapogenikoff et Collignon descendirent au n° 7. Je me mis en voiture avec maman, ma tante et Dina.

I shall give you a sketch of domestic affairs. Collignon merely does us the honour of lodging with us. She spends her time at the Sapogenikoffs', and during the rare moments at home she employs them in telling Grand-papa and my aunt that the Sapogenikoff young ladies are angels and receive ill-treatment only from me and Dina.

Je vais vous donner un aperçu des choses de la maison, Collignon ne fait que nous faire l'honneur de loger chez nous. Elle passe son temps chez les Sapogenikoff et pendant les rares instants chez nous elle les emploie à dire à grand-papa et à ma tante que les demoiselles Sapogenikoff sont des anges et qu'elles ne reçoivent de mauvaises façons que de moi et de Dina.

Moreover she displays a passion for Barnola of which Grand-papa is furiously jealous.

En outre elle étale une passion pour Barnola dont grand-papa est furieusement jaloux.

The house is furnished in an adorable fashion. My room is dazzling, and opening the balcony door and looking at our very pretty garden, the Promenade, and the sea, I was obliged to say aloud:
