When Laussel told Hélène Howard that she was to play at the same piano as I in an afternoon recital he wishes to give for the mothers — at which an overture is to be played for eight hands and two pianos — she made a face. I heard everything but pretended to look out the window to see whether my carriage had arrived. That is a humiliation I shall repay you somewhere someday, my beauty.
