We move into the apartment we have taken for a month, at 104 rue Longue, on the first floor. Halfway between the Kursaal and the Casino, with a balcony from which one can see the ocean; a pretty little salon. Charming entrance. I have a small room to myself. By two o’clock everything is done and I go with the Tamancheffs to the pier (I do not know how to spell this word); there I see no one. We go on to the Kursaal where I exchange a few words with the kind Foster girl.
A deux heures tout est fini et je vais avec les Tamancheff sur l’estacade (je ne sais comment écrire ce mot), là je ne vois personne. Nous passons au Kursaal où je dis quelques mots avec la gentille Foster.

Après on va aux magasins de dentelles. Ma tante qui traitait Basilévitch de femme usée etc. fraternise un peu avec elle et Basilévitch à défaut de cavalier cause volontiers roulette et valenciennes. J’oublie, comme je rentrais avant dîner, je vois Doria, dans le dos selon ma coutume. Il marchait derrière nous puis nous dépassa, avant que j’eus le temps de voir sa face.

My aunt and Basilevitch come at half past nine; they had been lace-hunting. On leaving, Basilevitch took my arm affectionately and placed her hand on my head, which my aunt observed with pleasure. Je viens de décacheter une lettre de Kirsh dans laquelle il dit qu’il y avait un cotillon organisé par Haristoff, de Biesme etc. etc. qui dura jusqu’à neuf heures du matin.
I could not make it all out, but I believe I read that they are going to organise something more and that Kirsh invites us.
Je ne pus bien déchiffrer mais je crois avoir lu qu’on va encore organiser quelque chose et que Kirsh nous invite.
I have already pictured in my head the journey I should like to make -- but I should also like to go with only a few Plobsters.
J’ai déjà représenté dans ma tête le voyage que je voudrais faire, mais je voudrais aussi n’aller qu’avec quelques Plobsters.
