At church with Dina and Paul (blue dress, brown hat, good) -- countless people.

A l'église avec Dina et Paul (robe bleue, chapeau brun bien) monde innombrable.

I have finished "The Iliad." Miserere!

J'ai fini "L'Iliade". Miserere !

I go at three o'clock with everyone to Mortier's for a hat for Machenka (what bad taste!). I could never get used to her manners. Then I walk with Hitchcock. I have a very pretty waist, especially today as I have laced myself a little tighter, for generally I am loosely corseted.

Je vais à trois heures avec tous chez Mortier pour un chapeau à Machenka, (quel mauvais genre !). Je ne saurais m'habituer à ses manières. Puis je marche avec Hitchcock. J'ai une très jolie taille, surtout aujourd'hui que je me suis serrée un peu plus, car généralement je suis à gorge déployée.

I went to Haton's to ask the price of a belt and a gold hair ornament; tomorrow I shall have the cardboard model. I return and find my dress which has "just arrived" -- but that wretched Worth has made it with a train. I am furious. We shout and argue like dogs in my room; this train vexes me. It will have to be remade. I go to study but Striker no. 2 comes with Paul and we chat for an hour. He danced the Boston.

Je suis allée chez Haton demander le prix d'une ceinture et d'une coiffure en or, demain j'aurai le modèle en carton. Je rentre et je trouve ma robe qui "vient de paraître" mais ce misérable Worth l'a faite à traîne. Je suis furieuse. On crie, on discute comme des chiens dans ma chambre, cette traîne m'ennuie. Il faudra la refaire. Je vais étudier mais Striker n° 2 vient avec Paul et nous jasons une heure. Il a dansé le boston.

I hurry for I must write a reprimand to Worth, go to bed at once, and rise at half past four.

Je me dépêche car je dois écrire une réprimande à Worth, me coucher tout de suite et me lever à quatre heures et demie.
