To the banker, for the departure has been postponed — lack of money. Tomorrow at eleven we shall have some. To the Macarani baths. All day I beg my aunt to pack her things, but as if to tease me, she will not. In the evening, a walk with the Princess, Maman, etc.; then to the Anitchkoffs’. After the walk I went to the Anitchkoffs’; everyone was sitting in the garden, playing cards, drinking. It is the wedding anniversary of the owner of their house — the thirty-eighth year of their marriage! How happy they are! The young married couple danced — oh, how comical they are!
Chez le banquier, car le départ a été remis, faute d’argent. Demain à onze heures nous en aurons. Aux bains Macarani. Toute la journée je prie ma tante d’emballer ses affaires, mais comme pour me taquiner elle ne veut pas. Le soir à la promenade avec la princesse, maman, etc., chez Anitchkoff. Après la promenade, je suis allée chez Anitchkoff, tout le monde était assis au jardin, on jouait, on buvait. C’est l’anniversaire de mariage du maître de leur maison, la trente-huitième année de leur mariage ! Comme ils sont heureux ! Les jeunes époux ont dansé, oh, qu’ils sont drôles !
We spoke again of Vienna; I said how much I want to go. Mme Anitchkoff also greatly wishes to go, but her old husband, her children — oh, what a burden!
On reparla de Vienne, j’ai dit comme je veux aller. Mme Anitchkoff a aussi grande envie d’y aller, mais son vieux mari, ses enfants, oh quel paquet !

J’ai fini par pleurer. Jamais je n’ai rien obtenu sans pleurs etc. On prend plaisir à me martyriser. On ne dit jamais ni oui, ni non, mais on traîne, on agace !!!
All this will cost me three years of my life, for certain!
